Hi. My name is Jo-Anne Westerby and I am the new Dean of Teaching, Learning and Quality & the College Librarian at Mohawk College. I've been with the college since 1999. My responsibilities include the Centre for Teaching and Learning (faculty development, curriculum design, e-Learning, learning technologies, and academic quality), and the Library @ Mohawk (library and learning spaces).
Welcome to my new blog. Here, on a somewhat regular basis, I hope to be musing out loud about teaching and learning, connections and synergies, inside and outside the college.
In thinking about branding this blog, I kept coming back to two key concepts - connections and synergies. "Connections" is finding relationships and associations, the act of bringing ideas into contact. "Synergies" is the blending together of ideas to create a larger effect. I think these two concepts aptly describe my role here at the college. I'll be sharing ideas on many connections and synergies as we go.
The purpose of a blog is to provide a running commentary or an online diary on a subject, in this case, teaching and learning. The true power of a blog is the ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format, to create conversations online. So, click on "comment" and let's start a conversation.
